The history of salt mining in Wieliczka dates back to thirteenth century. The Salt Mine Museum is an official Polish Historic Monument and one of the most popular places to visit in Poland. It was add to UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. The tourist route is a fairy-tale like journey through underground halls, chambers, corridors and water courses.
